![]() | StringHouse StringHouse is a sculptural installation, which is comprised of three suspended wires that support individual jute twines sequentially arranged to create an elemental house. The accumulation of individual twines alludes to something woven; yet without creating a solid, stable structure. The resulting sculpture defines space by being “drawn” into it, while at the same time remaining translucent. The sculpture engages physically, visually, as well as through the sense of smell. The twine’s earthy musk evokes a connection to nature. Visitors can walk into and around the House, experiencing both its fragility, yet definite demarcation of protective space. StringHouse addresses the permeable border that is at the essence of shelter. Our houses, much like our culture, are constructs which serve to both define us, as well as our interface with the outside. The sense of shelter is at once juxtaposed to the vulnerability of translucence. StringHouse invites the viewer to experience the fragility of human constructs, and while defining space, StringHouse stands as a humble symbol of their temporality and fragility. StringHouse can be installed in variable dimensions to become a site-specific installation. | |||||||||
